A new LED light for Poppi Castle
AEC Illuminazione was chosen for the LED renovation of the Castello dei Conti Guidi, now Palazzo Pretorio di Poppi, in the Casentino region of Tuscany. The medieval castle was built between the late 12th and early 14th centuries by the noble Guidi family and is the youngest of all those built by this powerful dynasty in the Arezzo area. The original core of the castle consists of the 45-meter square tower, which still dominates the rest of the building and the entire valley. However, its current appearance is not its original one; in fact, during restoration work in the 19th century, the tower was transformed into a bell tower.

Greater uniformity of light for the Castle
The project’s goal was to provide effective lighting for the Castle, uniformly illuminating its various geometries, making it highly visible even from long distances. This is undoubtedly a project the company is particularly proud of, as it has brought new splendor to one of the castles in its area. The new LED floodlights from AEC Illuminazione were chosen primarily for their high light quality, their superior performance with low energy consumption, and their undisputed, entirely Made in Italy construction quality.
Color rendering and high energy efficiency
Perfect color rendering
Which has kept the color of the stone unchanged
With the castle’s new architectural lighting, created with ALO series LED projectors, which feature a high color rendering index (CRI), it was possible to highlight every single architectural detail of the structure, while maintaining the original color of the stone intact.
Reduction of consumption
A saving of 65% compared to the previous solution
The new system, designed with efficient LED projectors, has led to a significant reduction in consumption, with a total power consumption of just 6.5kW compared to the previous system which included 26 720W devices each, for a total of 18.72kW.
Greater attractiveness of the area
The architectural lighting project for the Castello dei Conti Guidi also provided an opportunity to revitalize Poppi’s historic center, increasing its appeal. The Castle has always been an important meeting place for both residents and tourists visiting this renowned Tuscan town.
The majesty of the Castle
Compared to the previous lighting, the new LED projectors allow the Castle to be perfectly visible even from many kilometers away, expressing its majesty in a 360° perspective. The Castle of the Guidi Counts is, in fact, the architectural icon of the Municipality of Poppi, and with the new LED lighting proposed, AEC has fully achieved the project’s objectives: accentuating its forms while ensuring perfect light uniformity across every façade.
